There are many different types of business philosophies in the world. Some businesses make a product or provide a service, and keep doing the same thing over and over, relying on growing their client base. To do that, the only progressive move one could make is to get more efficient at making that product or delivering that service to entice more clients/customers. In going this route, however, you run the risk that the market will eventually not want your product or service anymore. This could happen because someone else comes along and does the same thing better and more efficiently (they probably progressively improved) or offers more value for that product or service (usually by expanding their offerings to include more with that service/product.)

It’s always important to find joy in the work you do. Since the inception of Media Beyond, we’ve enjoyed our work in service to our clients (video production and post-production,) and we enjoy the art and challenges behind this medium. To grow as a business, we could either try to make more videos for more people, or we could choose to add more value to our offerings. In our first few years, we’ve made a bunch of videos for clients that are interesting, entertaining, and well-produced, focusing on story and message. However, many of our clients would take our videos and then fend for themselves in finding an audience for them, and get few (if any) views on their website or YouTube. We realized that we are not helping our clients at all by not helping them get more eyes watching the videos we create for them.

In early 2012, Media Beyond expanded with the addition of broadcast talent to our team: we’ve refocused our efforts on two fronts: 1) Improvement in the quality of the videos we produce, both in scripting and design, and 2) Expanding our offerings into a full-service creative marketing agency. We began studying and immersing ourselves into the new tools of the trade: communications strategies, metrics collection and analysis, and strategic planning and execution. This exciting new direction opened up our possibilities tremendously, and we’ve met with new clients who have come aboard  for our expertise in media production, and stay for our marketing prowess.

We’ve chosen to go with the progressive business model of expanding our offerings, improving our efficiency, and increasing our value to our clients, while trying to have fun along the way. The things we’ve learned in our expansion have inspired us to create our own processes for these new offerings, and fostered the inception of the Media Beyond Shadow Works Department, our very own top-secret research and development branch.
